Alumni Contribute to Successful Haddonfield Educational Trust Golf and Tennis Fundraiser

July 5, 2017 | Dr. Joseph Serico

The 108 golfers, including several alumni, had warmed up on the practice range, grabbed their bag lunches, received final instructions from tournament co-chair Jack Tarditi, and drove their carts onto the pristine Tavistock fairways under lovely blue skies.  Some four hours and fourteen holes later our intrepid hackers were called in from the course.  While the thunder and heavy downpour may have dampened the golfers’ spirits, they returned to the clubhouse to find that co-chair, Chrissy Del Duca had anticipated the worst, planned ahead, and the barbecue was ready to go indoors.

The day was a great success on every front: good golf, good tennis at the Haddon Field Club, good food, good company, and much success with fundraising.  A significant portion of the money raised at the HET Tournament has been designated to support the construction of a new children’s playground at Tatem School. Chrissy Del Duca observed that, “The entire golf committee was impressed with and appreciative of the support received from Haddonfield Alumni, Tatem families and the members of the Haddon Field Club in their efforts to support the HET and the Tatem Playground Project”.  While the final tally is not in, the HET expects that this year’s tournament to be among its most successful fundraising efforts in support of the Haddonfield Public Schools.

Critically important to the success of the tournament was the role played by all our sponsors several of whom have an alumni connection.  The HET is extremely grateful to the following for their role as Platinum Sponsors:  Becica Associates, Brown and Brown, and Tito’s Homemade Vodka.  We are also grateful to our Gold Sponsors:  Capehart and Scatchard, The Evangelisti Companies and the Yale School.   There was a strong alumni presence among these sponsors.  Dan Smith of Tito’s Homemade Vodka is class of 97. Jack McDermott of Brown and Brown is class of 1981, Joe Betley of Capehart and Scatchard is class of 1976, and the father of Steve Becica of Becica Associates was a 1948 graduate of HMHS.  “The sponsorship support that the tournament gets from our alumni and the community makes it possible to have a very successful financial result”, noted co-chair Tarditi.

Among the other alumni sponsors were the Tully Family, Tom Baird, and Joe De Shayes. There was also a fine showing of alumni golfers including Dan Smith, Chris Wolschina, Scott Ward, Joe Eyles, Tom Betley, Joe Betley and Mike Betley.
Behind the scenes, the HET could count on several alumnae who helped make the day a success.  These included our co-chair, Chrissy Del Duca, and golf committee members Joanne Connor, Sue Hodges, Wendy Conover, Kathy Tully, and Maureen Eyles.

The Haddonfield Educational Trust is highly appreciative of all those who served as sponsors, participated as golfers, or supported the event by attending the family barbecue.  Thanks for helping us make a difference on behalf of the students of the Haddonfield Public Schools.  A complete list of all sponsors can be found on the HET website.

Special thanks to: Dan Smith Platinum Sponsor, Tito's Handmade Vodka Class of 1999, Joe Betley '76, Gold Sponsor Capehart and Scatchard, Steve Becica, Platinum Sponsor Becica Associates, and Jack McDonnell '81, Platinum Sponsor, Brown and Brown.
