2021 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

Lynn Green

Back to Recipients

Lynn Green began her teaching career as a special education teacher at Haddonfield Memorial High School in 1987.  From those earliest days she showed the compassion and empathy to high school students that would become the hallmark of her thirty-three year career.

Lynn truly found her niche in the district as a kindergarten teacher at Elizabeth Haddon.  Dr. Heather Stambaugh, a parent whose three children had Lynn as their kindergarten teacher,  wrote:  “…we realized how lucky our son was to have Lynn as a teacher.  She gave careful individualized attention to the academic and emotional needs of each of her students.  She was always at the ready with a kind word or warm hug for them.  She gave her students the foundation and tools to be successful learners.”

Mr. Gerry Bissinger noted that, “Lynn was all about relationships. She built strong and trusting relationships with her kindergarten students.  She made her students feel loved, supported, smart, challenged, and celebrated. She gave them opportunities to share about themselves and she built a community in her classroom. What her students gave her back was a special feeling of being part of a special school; she often referred to Lizzy Haddon as her second family.“

As a teacher, Lynn was an advocate for developing a curriculum that was engaging yet challenging for the students. As a reading and writing specialist, she was an integral part of the Reading Recovery program and was deeply involved in creating a curriculum that insured her students would thrive and make smooth grade level transitions

Mr. Bissinger added, “Lynn’s favorite thing to do was simply reading to her students. She had many, many, many books some of which I insisted she donate or throw away (she often refused) as her classroom and office overflowed with books for her students. One of Lynn’s proudest moments each year was when she would hang her students writing in the hallway each spring. She would beam with pride and tell me, “GB (as she often called me) they are writers!” While Lynn was busy being proud of her students, I always knew they were writers because of her. Her passion, creativity, and dedication radiated to her students.”

Dr. Stambaugh shared that, “Lynn has impacted the lives of hundreds of students and their families over the course of the 33 years that she has taught in the Haddonfield School District.  She was honored to work with her students, their families, and her colleagues.  Through her commitment and dedication, she worked tirelessly with the committee that helped Elizabeth Haddon Elementary achieve national recognition as a Blue Ribbon School.  This award was very important to Lynn because she always humbly felt she was only a small part of something that was much bigger – that it represented the support and hard work of so many extraordinary students, families, educators, and administrators.“
